Email Newsletters
ONE/Northwest has identified WhatCounts as a powerful email newsletter system that can seamlessly integrate with organizations' websites and relationship management databases.
The Challenge
Email is still the internet's "killer app" for online communication and organizing. As groups grow larger email lists and become more sophisticated about online marketing, they need email broadcasting tools that are powerful, easy to use, and play well with other online communications tools such as websites and constituent management databases. And the tools need be affordable.
The Solution
In 2004, ONE/Northwest spent considerable time analyzing the landscape of email broadcasting tools and services. We looked at open-source software packages, desktop email blasting programs, and email broadcasting services.
In the end, we decided that WhatCounts, a relatively small company located in Seattle, offered the most powerful set of tools at the best price, and promised to be highly accountable to us and the organizations with whom we work.
We were particularly impressed with WhatCounts' strong investments in an API (Application Programming Interface) layer, which allows outside systems such as websites and relationship management databases to move data in and out of WhatCounts. This allows us to build email newsletter systems that draw lists of names from an organization's membership database, and draw content directly from their website.
