ONE/Northwest at Web of Change
ONE/Northwest played an instrumental role in convening this year's "Web of Change" conference, which gathered cutting-edge social change organizers and technologists on Cortes Island, BC.
In late September, ONE/Northwest staffers Jodie Tonita, Jon Stahl and Karen Uffelman traveled to Cortes Island, BC to attend Web of Change 2007, an annual gathering of leaders working at the intersection of social change, technology and organizing.
Web of Change, originally founded by Jason Mogus of Communicopia, in Vancouver, BC has grown over the past seven years into one of the premier gatherings of our peers across the continent. ONE/Northwest has been an active participant for years, but this year was special: ONE/Northwest was a presenting sponsor, and Jodie Tonita, our BC Program Manager, was one of the four co-convenors.
Jodie played a key role in crafting the agenda, putting the spotlight on organizing strategies for a networked world. In addition, she recruited participants from far and wide -- and was able to raise funds to support the travel expenses of talented leaders who added vital new voices to the mix.
The session notes only begin to hint at the rich, wide-ranging conversations that flowed over the four days and nights. We were proud to have had the opportunity to help shape Web of Change, and inspired and honored to be a part of the ever-growing Web of Change community.
